Armenian MFA clarifies strategic partnership document with U.S.

Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ani Badalyan has issued clarifications regarding the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Partnership document and the role of the commission mentioned within it.

The document, signed on January 14 in Washington, referred to a Strategic Partnership Commission in the U.S. announcement. However, the Armenian statement did not use the term "commission," instead presenting the document as the "Charter on Strategic Partnership between Armenia and the United States," according to a report by RFE/RL.

The Armenian MFA described this discrepancy as technical in nature. Badalyan emphasized that the charter formalizes the strategic nature of the partnership and simultaneously lays the groundwork for establishing the commission. This commission aims to facilitate the charter's objectives, including sectoral coordination and discussions.

According to the MFA, the jointly drafted document has been fully agreed upon and finalized. It serves as a roadmap for deepening strategic cooperation and fostering interaction in various fields between Armenia and the United States.

The Armenia-U.S. Strategic Partnership Charter, which also initiates the commission's work, is designed to strengthen bilateral ties across multiple areas of joint effort.

On January 14 in Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed the strategic partnership document, reinforcing bilateral cooperation. During the signing ceremony, Blinken announced that a U.S. team specializing in customs and border security would visit Armenia in the coming weeks to assist with capacity development in border security.
