Pashinyan: tax declaration aims to reveal corruption chains

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the goals of the tax declaration system on his Facebook page, emphasizing that one of its aims is to fully uncover corruption chains.

“Declaring the assets of high-ranking officials and their cohabiting family members is an important yet incomplete component of the anti-corruption system, as there are non-cohabiting family members, friends, close and distant relatives of high-ranking officials who pose similar corruption risks.

Often, corruption involves individuals who hold no official position and have no de jure or traceable connection to any high-ranking official. They may be ordinary citizens of Armenia yet play a big role in corruption schemes.

The declaration system is designed not only for them but also to help uproot corruption from Armenia. It is the realization of the zero-tolerance approach to corruption, a commitment made between the government and the people during the Revolution,” he wrote.

The declaration requirement will take effect in Armenia in May 2025.
