Thousands gathered on January 19 in front of the Agos weekly newspaper office in Istanbul, where journalist Hrant Dink was assassinated on January 19, 2007, to honor his memory on the 18th anniversary of his death.
According to a statement from Agos, citizens assembled at the designated time outside the editorial office, chanting, “We are here, brother.” They carried banners in Armenian, Turkish, and Kurdish, emphasizing Dink’s commitment to peace and the demand for justice.
Participants included Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, other officials, current and former members of the Kurdish party, as well as figures from cultural and social spheres, Factor.am reports.
During the event, a message from Osman Kavala, imprisoned following the Gezi Park protests, was read, highlighting themes of justice and preserving memory.
Hrant Dink, an Istanbul-based Armenian community leader and editor-in-chief of the Agos newspaper, was assassinated outside his editorial office on January 19, 2007. Despite years of court proceedings, Dink’s lawyers insist the main orchestrators of the murder remain unidentified, and the sentences issued by the court are excessively lenient.
