During a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed the strategic partnership agreement signed with the United States, emphasizing that it should not be seen as a rescue plan.
"We have not found saviors in the document signed with the U.S.," he stated.
The minister highlighted that the document has been the subject of public manipulation, often undetectable at first glance.
"Some claimed, 'That's it, we're saved.' Dear people, we are not saved, and there is no need to search for saviors. Just as we did not need saviors from the north before, now we do not need to look for them in the north, south, east, west, or anywhere else. If we have a way to save ourselves, we must ensure that we not only save but also strengthen and develop ourselves," Mirzoyan said.
He noted that Armenia and the United States have engaged in strategic dialogue for years, facilitated by a commission, and the new agreement reflects efforts to elevate these relations to a new level.
Mirzoyan dismissed claims that the document constitutes a military alliance and criticized as baseless the idea that Moscow or Tehran would punish Armenia over it.
"Our actions are guided solely by Armenia's interests. We are a sovereign state and want to develop relations with all countries. We decide with whom and to what extent. For countries with whom we have strained relations, we aim to improve ties, again prioritizing Armenia's interests," Mirzoyan stated.
*On January 14, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed a strategic partnership agreement in Washington, strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
During the signing ceremony, Blinken noted that in the coming weeks, a U.S. team specializing in customs and border security will visit Armenia to work with local partners on enhancing border security capabilities.*
