Speaking during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia has adopted a balanced and balancing foreign policy.
He added that Yerevan is striving to balance its relations with the European Union, Russia, and regional powers, Armenpress reports.
“Our relations with Iran are very important. We are trying to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey, and we are seeking peace with Azerbaijan. Of course, this is not easy, but on the other hand, I don’t think it’s impossible.
It may sound strange, but we are genuinely transparent about our intentions with all our international partners. We share with all our partners what we are doing with others. You mentioned our decision to move closer to the EU, but we are also actively sharing our positions with Iran, Russia, and all our other partners,” the Prime Minister said.
Pashinyan noted that during these challenging times, there are numerous threats and challenges, but simultaneously, it is also a time of immense change.
“Periods of change bring significant threats, but on the other hand, they bring immense opportunities. We are trying to manage the threats and seize the opportunities. I believe this is the only pragmatic way forward, but without forgetting about balance, because losing balance can lead to severe consequences for security and stability—not just for one specific country but for the region and global stability,” the Prime Minister elaborated.
According to Pashinyan, it is important to be as interconnected as possible, but at the same time, any instability in any part of the world can trigger a chain reaction globally, even in small countries and regions.
“This is why being balanced and remembering the importance of balance every day is crucial,” he concluded.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is on a two-day working visit to Switzerland with his spouse, Anna Hakobyan, to participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos.
