Trump demands Denmark hand over Greenland to U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump called Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, demanding that Greenland be handed over to the United States, according to the Financial Times, which cited five current and former high-ranking European officials.

As reported by Lenta,ru, the sources revealed that the conversation between Trump and Frederiksen was highly tense. They described Trump’s demeanor as aggressive and confrontational, with the president rejecting any proposals for cooperation and focusing solely on acquiring the world’s largest island for the U.S.

European officials initially viewed Trump’s comments on Greenland as a political tactic to exert influence over NATO-member Denmark. However, many now believe his intentions to annex the island are serious. “The Danes are absolutely terrified by this,” one source stated.

Reports have also highlighted potential environmental challenges should Greenland become part of the U.S. Beneath the island’s ice lies an abandoned U.S. military base powered by a nuclear reactor. Cleaning up the site would require extensive effort and resources.
