Armenian PM rules out transfer of strategic infrastructure

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with Public Television, asserted that the delimitation process “will not result in the transfer of any strategic infrastructure of Armenia to the control of another country.”

“None of our strategic infrastructure can be ceded to others. The purpose of delimitation is to reflect internationally recognized de jure borders on the ground,” he said.

The Prime Minister did not rule out the possibility of some land swaps during the delimitation process, but he emphasized that “such exchanges could only occur through a referendum.”

Pashinyan explained that the delimitation process is being conducted in accordance with OSCE guidelines, though these are not legally binding documents.

On January 16, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an agreement had been reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a new section of border delimitation. The agreement envisions starting work from the northern section, where the borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia meet, extending southward to the Iran-Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
