Kostanyan discusses bilateral cooperation prospects in Syria

Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan met with Syria’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaybani in Damascus to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Kostanyan conveyed the Armenian government’s commitment to strengthening relations with Syria and exchanged views with his counterpart on potential areas of cooperation. He reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to support Syria in humanitarian and reform initiatives, as well as in other priority programs.

Both sides underscored the historic and enduring ties between the Armenian and Syrian peoples, expressing support for fostering solidarity and inclusivity within Syria.

The officials also exchanged views on regional developments, highlighting the importance of normalizing relations with neighboring states.

The Syrian side highly valued the Armenian delegation’s visit to Damascus, and both parties agreed to maintain ongoing dialogue.

Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who led the country for over 25 years, relocated to Russia on December 8 after losing control of Damascus. Moscow has provided asylum for Assad and his family.
