Former International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo has stated that Yerevan cannot halt the investigation into crimes against Armenians at the ICC, even though it has the right to withdraw its complaints. He emphasized that the prosecutor retains the authority to continue the investigation from the moment jurisdiction was established on May 10, 2021, and for one year following any withdrawal.
A year ago, the Armenian authorities ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC, arguing that this would allow them to file lawsuits in court against Baku's aggression and war crimes, including the 2021-2022 invasion of the Republic of Armenia.
In Washington, Pashinyan, discussing two unresolved points of the peace agreement, mentioned that one of them is the cancellation of complaints against each other in legal structures. He noted that while they are not opposed to this idea, their proposal includes not only canceling these complaints but also not raising these issues in bilateral relations. Otherwise, a strange situation could arise where, for example, a matter is withdrawn from an international body's court, but one of the parties tries to bring it up in bilateral relations.
