The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has outlined the reform areas where Armenia is ready to assist Syria, Sputnik Armenia reports.
On January 27, the MFA announced that Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan met with Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaybani in Damascus, expressing Armenia’s willingness to support humanitarian efforts and reforms.
When asked about the initiative behind Kostanyan’s visit and whether Turkey played any role in its organization, the MFA emphasized that the visit was "exclusively Armenia’s initiative." The primary goal was to establish ties with Syria’s new leadership, restore traditional friendly relations between the two countries, and address issues concerning the Armenian community.
"The meeting between Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and Syria’s Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaybani focused on Armenia’s potential support for Syria, particularly in social-economic, humanitarian, and cultural-educational reforms, as well as post-war reconstruction," the MFA statement read.
According to the MFA, the Syrian side highly valued the Armenian delegation’s visit to Damascus, and both sides agreed to maintain communication.
