Officials discuss fate of missing persons at border meeting

On February 7, 2025, at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, a meeting took place between Armenia’s Interagency Commission on Prisoners, Hostages, and Missing Persons and Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Citizens, Armenia’s National Security Service reported.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on issues related to clarifying the fate of missing persons and agreed to continue discussions by mutual consent.

According to official data, since the early 1990s, 993 Armenians have been classified as missing, while around 200 Armenian soldiers have disappeared following the 44-day war. After the war, Armenia handed over the remains of 51 Azerbaijanis to Baku, along with the bones of 140 Azerbaijanis who died in the 1990s.
