Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopirkin has reiterated Moscow’s commitment to facilitating the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku. He emphasized that regional security remains a priority in Russia-Armenia bilateral relations. Kopirkin made these remarks during a speech at a reception marking Russia’s Diplomatic Worker’s Day.
"Russia is determined to provide the necessary support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan in all directions—building on the trilateral agreements reached by the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan between 2020 and 2022. This includes the development of balanced and mutually acceptable provisions for a peace treaty, border delimitation and demarcation, and the unblocking of transport communications," he said, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
According to him, Russia-Armenia allied relations are adapting to the new realities in the region and globally. However, he stressed that the core element remains the shared conviction that close strategic partnership aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and their fraternal peoples. Kopirkin noted that this commitment was reaffirmed during the January 21 meeting in Moscow between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
"Our relations continue to be significantly shaped by cultural and humanitarian ties, cooperation in education, and interpersonal exchanges, with a crucial role played by diaspora organizations in preserving these connections," Kopirkin stated.
On January 16, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan had reached an agreement on a new section of the border delimitation. The agreement envisions starting the process from the northern segment, at the junction of the borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and proceeding southward to the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with Iran.
