Gold traders in Yerevan have once again gathered in front of the government building to voice their dissatisfaction with the recent amendments to the Tax Code.
“They say, ‘If you want to work, work; if not, don’t.’ That’s always been their approach. But why did we reject the previous authorities? Don’t they question that?
We pay taxes just to watch them live in luxury, traveling abroad with their families, awarding themselves limitless bonuses. At whose expense? If a person has no income, they economize to survive. But we don’t see them doing that,” said one of the protesters, according to Panorama.am .
Another business owner described the situation in the trade sector as dire, explaining that sales only occur during one or two months in the summer.
“We’ve been in the gold trade for over 25 years. Every year, there are fewer buyers. No one is purchasing anything. What should we do? Close shop and pack our bags? Is that what they want? That won’t happen. There are people who truly love this country and want to live here,” said another protester.
The demonstrators emphasize that the tax reforms were enacted without any consultation or consideration of their opinions.
“We are here to demand, to force, and to ensure that these latest tax changes are repealed,” one of the protesters declared during the demonstration, as reported by Panorama.am .
They argue that the authorities are trying to fill the state budget at the expense of the people by raising their own salaries and ensuring a luxurious lifestyle.
“You’ll see the back of your own heads without a mirror, but you won’t see this nation on its knees. You’ll see your own downfall. The time has come,” one of the protest participants stated.
