Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the country seeks security guarantees from the United States, the European Union, and Turkey. He made this announcement during the opening ceremony of Ukraine's new embassy building in Ankara.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine desires peace and an end to the war, but the resolution must be based on concrete security assurances, according to Anadolu Agency.
"We want these security guarantees to be provided by the United States, the European Union, and all of Europe, including Turkey," the Ukrainian leader stated.
The president also highlighted the importance of preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity. He noted that these issues would be discussed during negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Zelensky recalled previous "results-oriented" talks with Erdoğan and acknowledged Ankara’s mediation efforts in the peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He expressed gratitude to Turkey for its assistance in prisoner exchanges and emphasized the importance of "bringing Ukrainians back home" and ensuring "food security" for Ukraine.
The president noted that Turkey's efforts led to the creation of a food corridor, but Russia’s actions disrupted its operations, depriving those in need worldwide of essential supplies. Zelensky thanked all nations supporting food security and underscored the significance of Ukrainian food exports to African and Syrian countries.
Zelensky called the opening of Ukraine’s new embassy in Ankara a "highly symbolic" event. He pointed out the presence of representatives from the Crimean Tatar community and emphasized his support for the embassy project from its inception. The president praised the new building, stating it is "worthy of his country" and acknowledged the contributions of numerous individuals, including Ukraine’s Foreign Minister and former ambassador to Ankara, Andrii Sybiha. The new diplomatic facility was handed over to Ukraine’s newly appointed ambassador to Turkey, Nariman Dzhelyal.
He reaffirmed that the country will never compromise on its territorial integrity.
"The Constitution of Ukraine is clear, and I cannot act against it," Zelensky declared.
"We will never, ever recognize our temporarily occupied territories as part of Russia. They belong to Ukraine," he added.
He emphasized that Kyiv seeks to restore its territories occupied by Russia through diplomatic means.
"We do not want to lose our people; our people are our greatest asset," the president explained.
Addressing "all mediators—Russians, Americans, and Europeans," Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine seeks a diplomatic resolution to the conflict "without bloodshed," but will never surrender its territorial integrity or sovereignty.
Additionally, he reaffirmed Ukraine’s recognition of the Crimean Tatars as an indigenous people.
