Armenia's top tennis player, Elina Avanesyan, currently ranked 45th in the world, achieved an impressive victory in the second round of the WTA 500 tournament by defeating Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who holds the 66th position globally.
The match took place in Mérida, Mexico, where Avanesyan dominated in both sets, winning with a score of 6-1, 6-4. It lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
In the next round, Avanesyan will face the world's 103rd-ranked player, Australian Maya Joint. In her previous match, Joint secured her spot in the third round by defeating the world's 20th-ranked player, Donna Vekić, with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
The Merida Open tournament boasts a prize fund of $1.064 million.
