Former Artsakh president rejects Azerbaijan’s allegations

Tigran Abrahamyan, secretary of the "I Have Honor" parliamentary faction, stated that during the ongoing "trial" in Baku, former Artsakh president Arkadi Ghukasyan addressed Armenia’s involvement in the 44-day war. He emphasized that Armenia acted as Artsakh’s security guarantor, a role considered legitimate.

According to Abrahamyan, Ghukasyan also denied Azerbaijan’s accusations that foreign mercenaries had been deployed in Artsakh.

"Ghukasyan also touched upon long-discussed debates about stopping the war early. He mentioned that he and Bako Sahakyan met with then-President Arayik Harutyunyan during the war. Their goal was to indirectly urge Armenia’s leadership to do everything possible to halt the war.

I believe this was based on the military-political situation at the time, which largely aligned with the Armenian General Staff’s assessments and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stance that an early ceasefire could have prevented significant, especially human, losses," Abrahamyan wrote.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement emphasizing that it continues to draw international attention to the release of Armenian prisoners of war, hostages, and detainees in Azerbaijan. It also condemns the staged trials marked by severe procedural violations and evident signs of torture.
