Hajiyev: Armenia mistaken if it thinks resolutions influence Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev has stated that Armenia is mistaken if it believes resolutions can influence Azerbaijan’s decisions.

"Armenia and its supporters are wrong," he said, as reported by Minval.az .

His comments come after the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees held in Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev also asserted that certain individuals in Armenia "must be held criminally accountable."

He further emphasized that the issue of compensation remains a key discussion point.

"Following the president’s directives, relevant Azerbaijani institutions have conducted a detailed assessment, using modern methods, of the destruction caused by Armenia’s 30-year occupation of our cities and villages, as well as the looting and destruction of our cultural and material heritage. This matter remains crucial for achieving full peace in the region," Hajiyev stated.

His remarks effectively introduced new demands on Armenia, despite the recent announcement by the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministries that negotiations on the peace treaty had concluded.

Armenia's Foreign Ministry recently confirmed that Yerevan accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the last two disputed articles of the peace agreement, signaling that the deal is ready for signing. The agreement consists of 17 points, of which 15 were previously settled. The unresolved articles concerned the mutual renunciation of claims at the international level and the non-deployment of foreign personnel along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
