Opposition MP: Armenian authorities' diplomacy has failed

MP Artur Khachatryan from the Armenia parliamentary faction called the finalization of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement text yet another failure of the government, particularly in foreign policy.

He stated that they had asked Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to name at least one instance where Azerbaijan had made a concession, as a true compromise requires mutual concessions, Aysor.am reports.

"If the Foreign Minister cannot name a single Azerbaijani concession, what are we talking about? A process where only one side keeps conceding cannot be called a compromise," he emphasized.

According to Khachatryan, the minister’s only justification was that peace is necessary for Armenia’s interests. "This means that everything Azerbaijan has dictated, this government has accepted. Now they are blackmailing the Armenian people and the entire nation, saying that if we don’t comply with Azerbaijan’s demands, war will follow," he said.

When asked about opposition actions, Khachatryan stated: "Azerbaijan demands constitutional changes in Armenia, and everything must be done to prevent this document—possibly drafted in Baku—from being approved."

He accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of rushing to finalize the agreement simply to fulfill his promise of peace, regardless of its content.

"He came to power promising peace, and now he just needs a piece of paper—no matter what it says—so he can wave it around like Chamberlain and claim he brought peace. But what did that paper bring to Europe?" Khachatryan remarked.

He concluded by warning that Azerbaijan would continue exerting pressure to push forward new demands.

Following the announcement of the peace deal's finalization, Baku immediately introduced new demands, including changes to Armenia’s constitution and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. Azerbaijani President’s aide Hikmet Hajiyev also stated that individuals in Armenia should face criminal responsibility and highlighted the issue of reparations.
