EU observers to remain in Armenia until agreement is signed

EU monitors will stay in Armenia until the agreement is signed, after which further steps will be discussed, stated Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

He highlighted that the EU observers' mandate explicitly mentions their role in maintaining stability in border areas and supporting the peace process.

Mirzoyan noted that since their deployment, there have been no large-scale escalations, attributing this to their activities. Therefore, we are truly grateful and appreciate their efforts. They will continue their mission until the agreement is signed.

The minister emphasized that once the agreement is signed, ratified, and comes into force, it will signify the establishment of peace.

"Their function was to contribute to peace; once it comes into force, peace is established. Therefore, we will likely need to discuss with our EU partners what changes are needed in the mandate and what other cooperation should be developed," he added.

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has accepted the Azerbaijani side's proposals regarding the two previously unagreed articles, and that the Peace Agreement is ready for signing. It is noted that Armenia is ready to start consultations on the timing and venue of the signing.

The draft Peace Agreement consists of 17 points, of which 15 were previously agreed upon. One of the unagreed points was the mutual renunciation of international-level claims against each other, and the other was the non-deployment of representatives of other countries on the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
