UN chief supports Armenia-Azerbaijan peace efforts

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the announcements by Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the finalization of the peace agreement text and the conclusion of related negotiations.

He praised the progress made by the parties toward normalizing relations and strongly supports their efforts to resolve all outstanding issues in the interest of long-term peace in the region.

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that it has accepted Azerbaijan's proposals on the two previously unresolved articles, indicating that the peace agreement is ready for signing. Armenia is prepared to begin consultations on the timing and location of the signing. However, Baku has introduced new preconditions and stated that it is premature to discuss meeting dates.

The draft peace agreement consists of 17 points, 15 of which had been previously agreed upon. One of the unresolved points pertained to mutual renunciation of international claims, while the other concerned the non-deployment of representatives from third countries along the Azerbaijan-Armenia border.
