Jared Genser, the attorney representing former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, who is imprisoned in Baku on politically motivated charges, has called on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to closely examine statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
In a post on X, Genser noted that Washington has emphasized not only the need to sign a peace treaty but also the urgent release of Armenian prisoners.
"I am confident that on these key issues, you fully agree with the Trump administration," he wrote.
U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that during a conversation with Hikmet Hajiyev, Azerbaijan’s presidential aide on foreign policy, he urged Baku to release the prisoners and finalize the peace treaty with Armenia.
Earlier, Pashinyan stated that Armenian authorities raise the issue of prisoners at every possible platform, but the lack of resolution does not mean it was ignored—it means there is no agreement yet.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry has announced that Yerevan accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two previously disputed articles, and the peace agreement is ready for signing. Armenia has expressed readiness to discuss the timing and location of the signing. However, Baku has introduced new preconditions and stated that it is too early to discuss dates.
