UK calls for swift signing of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace accord

UK Foreign Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Development David Lammy has emphasized the importance of concluding negotiations on the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement.

During his speech in Parliament, he stressed that this process holds historical significance, reports Pastinfo.

"Armenia and Azerbaijan have concluded negotiations on a historic peace agreement. We welcome this achievement and urge both sides to move toward signing it as soon as possible," Lammy stated.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry earlier announced that it has accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals regarding two previously unresolved articles, and that the peace agreement is now ready for signing. Armenia has expressed its willingness to begin consultations on the timeline and venue for the signing. Meanwhile, Baku has introduced new preconditions and stated that it is too early to discuss meeting dates.

The draft peace agreement consists of 17 provisions, of which 15 had previously been agreed upon. The two unresolved points concerned renouncing international claims against each other and not deploying representatives of other countries at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
