Rally for Artsakh Armenians' rights to be held in Yerevan on March 29

A major rally will be held at Yerevan’s Freedom Square on March 29, organized by the “Council for the Protection of the Rights of Artsakh Armenians,” formed through the initiative of the “For Artsakh” alliance and encompassing nearly all segments of Artsakh’s civil society.

The demonstration will spotlight key issues related to Artsakh, the rights of its people, and their security.

At 15:00 on March 29, participants will raise the following demands:

  • Ensuring the collective right of return to Artsakh
  • Implementing dignified housing and financial support programs for displaced Artsakh Armenians
  • Repatriating Armenian prisoners from Azerbaijani jails
  • Preserving Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh

The alliance urges the public to attend and support the rally.

On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale assault on Artsakh, subjecting the region to intense shelling. One day later, on September 20, Artsakh authorities agreed to a ceasefire proposed by the Russian peacekeeping mission, accepting Baku’s terms, including the disarmament of the Defense Army and the dissolution of the Republic of Artsakh. Forced displacement began on September 24, with over 100,000 people fleeing to Armenia. According to some reports, around 20 Armenians remain in Artsakh. On September 28, Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree to dissolve the Republic of Artsakh, effective January 1, 2024.
