Armen Abazyan, Director of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS), said during a briefing at the National Assembly that efforts are underway to organize a follow-up meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions addressing the issues of detainees, hostages, and missing persons.
He noted that at the conclusion of the February 7 discussion between the two sides, which took place in the border zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan, a mutual understanding was reached to continue their joint work.
According to Abazyan, families of the missing persons have been informed of the outcomes of that initial meeting, reports 1lurer.am .
“I also met with the parents, informed them about the results of the meeting and the plans for continued cooperation,” Abazyan said, declining to disclose further details due to the confidential nature of the discussions.
“Everything is being done to ensure that the next meeting takes place, and that the issues concerning the parents of the missing and the detainees receive comprehensive answers,” he emphasized.
“I don’t want to speculate or express expectations prematurely, but rest assured that the Armenian side will do everything possible to succeed in this matter,” the NSS head added.
On February 7, a joint session was held in the Armenia-Azerbaijan border zone between Armenia’s interagency commission on prisoners, hostages, and missing persons and Azerbaijan’s state commission on prisoners of war, hostages, and missing citizens. The parties exchanged views on clarifying the fate of the missing and agreed to continue the dialogue through mutual consent.
