Van’t Schip apologizes to Armenian fans after 6-1 defeat

Head coach of the Armenian national football team, John van’t Schip, has publicly apologized to the Armenian people and fans following the team’s crushing 6-1 defeat against Georgia in the UEFA Nations League play-off, as reported by Pastinfo.

“When a match starts like that—conceding a goal in the third minute, then the second, the third, making unprofessional errors and frequently losing possession—this kind of result is inevitable.

First of all, I want to apologize to the Armenian people and our fans. A result like this is simply unacceptable,” van’t Schip said during a press conference.

President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), Armen Melikbekyan, also addressed the loss, stating that the federation, the national team, and the coaching staff have issued a joint statement in response to the recent results.

“We apologize for these results,” Melikbekyan said, delivering the joint message, as reported by Factor.am .

He added that they have reached the conclusion that they are ready to face this challenge.

“On behalf of all of us, I apologize to the public for these results. But after a lengthy discussion, we’ve promised one another—and are convinced—that we can move forward as a team despite the negativity surrounding football. We’re ready to overcome all difficulties, resolve our internal issues, and return in a completely different form in June,” Melikbekyan told reporters.

Armenia suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat against Georgia. Edgar Sevikyan scored the only goal for Armenia in the second half. Despite the loss, Armenia retained its place in League C, while Georgia was promoted to League B.
