Arthur Vanetsyan, leader of the Homeland party and former head of the NSS, commenting on the discussions surrounding "who brought Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan" to power and why former president Serzh Sargsyan "gave up," stated that "if Serzh Sargsyan had told what would happen, where the country would end up, would anyone have believed him?" He shared his thoughts during a broadcast on 24News.
Vanetsyan emphasized that if Serzh Sargsyan had fought, with hundreds of people losing their lives, and then explained what would happen in the future, no one would have believed him about the country's fate. The current situation would have been simply impossible to believe.
According to Vanetsyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will not sign any agreement, as he is not confident that Pashinyan will continue leading Armenia in the near future.
In Vanetsyan's opinion, Pashinyan, being defeated and psychologically pressured, cannot bring peace to Armenia, and the opposition must offer solutions for the future.
Vanetsyan highlighted that Pashinyan intends to sign not a treaty with Aliyev, but rather an agreement that will have no legal consequences. Afterward, he will come to the 2026 elections and say that if people want lasting peace, they must vote for him so that he can sign a treaty.
He also added that while he currently does not have plans to initiate street actions with his political force, he does not rule out any developments.
"While street actions are not ruled out, we must be prepared to go to elections as well," he noted.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has already been agreed upon and is awaiting final signing. He mentioned that he has proposed to Azerbaijani President Aliyev to initiate consultations on the signing of the agreed draft.
On March 13, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan's proposals on two unapproved articles, and that the Peace Agreement is ready to be signed. It was also stated that Armenia is ready to begin consultations regarding the signing dates and location. Baku has raised new preconditions and stated that it is still too early to discuss meeting dates.
