ARTE France has officially apologized for displaying a map of the South Caucasus that entirely omitted Armenia during a recent episode of the show ‘28 Minutes.’ The French-Armenian journalist Grigor Amirzanyan shared the information on social media, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
During the show, a map of the South Caucasus was shown with Armenia fully incorporated into Azerbaijan, effectively erasing it.
Host Élisabeth Quin publicly addressed the issue, stating that the editorial team sincerely apologizes to the Armenian audience for the map that appeared during a debate on Turkey. She emphasized that the mistake was not intentional.
Jean-Christophe Buisson, deputy editor of Le Figaro, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I don’t believe for a second that this was deliberate—whether by ‘28 Minutes’ or any Azerbaijani media lobby—but the mistake is painful to both the eyes and the heart. Armenia was simply erased from the Caucasus map. The dream of Erdoğan and Aliyev…”
“The show ‘28 Minutes’ would like to apologize. We extend our sincere apologies to our Armenian friends for the incorrect map aired yesterday during the debate on Turkey. Again, thank you for your understanding—this was a regrettable and entirely unintentional error,” Quin added.
She also clarified that neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan was discussed during the segment, and the map was used solely for contextual purposes in the report.
