The leader of the Democratic Alternative party, Suren Surenyants, has accused the authorities of using pressure tactics in Gyumri, targeting influential opposition figures as elections approach.
During a live broadcast, Surenyants stated that the government has begun deploying tools of pressure and repression in Gyumri. He specifically referred to searches carried out at the campaign headquarters of the Mother Armenia alliance and at properties linked to Martun Grigoryan, a mayoral candidate in the city, according to Aysor.am .
"This is outright legal lawlessness with a clear political agenda. The Civil Contract party, sensing a serious defeat in Gyumri’s elections, has begun targeting all influential opponents. Just days ago, our party and our candidate were in their crosshairs, but we responded accordingly. Now they're starting repressive actions against Martun Grigoryan and the Mother Armenia alliance," Surenyants said.
He added that the Democratic Alternative party, as an opposition force, stands in solidarity with both the "Mother Armenia" alliance and Martun Grigoryan along with his political team.
"This morning I met with our candidate, Martun Grigoryan, as well as with Andranik Tevanyan, the leader of Mother Armenia, and expressed our support," he noted.
Surenyants also announced that the Democratic Alternative party will hold its final rally at the Textile Club Hall at 19:00.
The local elections in Gyumri and Parakar are scheduled for March 30.
