Ashotyan's house arrest extended for 3 more months

The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia has extended the house arrest of Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, by another three months. The ruling was delivered by Judge Vahe Dolmazyan.

According to Aravot.am , the court also granted Ashotyan permission to hold meetings with fellow Republican Party members at his residence.

During the same hearing, the court approved a request from his lawyer Ruben Melikyan, allowing Ashotyan to participate remotely in a European People’s Party (EPP) event scheduled for April 2.

Today’s session also featured the testimony of Ani Ghantilyan, an accountant for the foundation of Yerevan State Medical University and the Heratsi trade union. Her questioning will continue at the next hearing on April 9.

Ashotyan was initially detained on June 16, 2023. On September 10, 2024, the court replaced his detention with house arrest.

Ashotyan and Mikael Narimanyan, former rector of Yerevan State Medical University, are accused of embezzling approximately $100,000 worth of university property. According to prosecutors, they purchased cottages at the Tsovasar hotel complex at inflated prices followed by kickback schemes. At the time, Ashotyan chaired the university’s board of trustees.
