Arthur Vanetsyan, leader of the Homeland party, has urged patience regarding questions about Martun Grigoryan's next steps following the Gyumri local elections. Grigoryan leads the Our City alliance, which includes Vanetsyan's party and Yervand Tarverdyan's United Armenia.
“We’ll announce our decision when we feel it’s time,” Vanetsyan told Factor.am.
Grigoryan has yet to clarify whom he supports or what political path he intends to follow after the snap elections in Gyumri. On March 31, he simply wrote on Facebook that “the ruling party will not have a mayor in Gyumri.”
In response to a follow-up question about the timing of any announcement, Vanetsyan replied briefly: “Let’s wait.”
Although Grigoryan is not formally a member of any political party, he serves in parliament as part of the opposition I Have Honor faction. This faction is led by former President Serzh Sargsyan. The Homeland party initially participated in the alliance but left in 2022 without explaining its reasons.
Unlike Grigoryan, the three other opposition candidates elected to the city council have already expressed readiness to cooperate. Specifically, My Strong Community party and the Mother Armenia alliance have said they are willing to support the opposition candidate who received the most votes, Vardan Ghukasyan. Representing the Armenian Communist Party, Ghukasyan received 20.48% of the vote.
In a conversation with Factor TV, Ghukasyan suggested that Grigoryan’s silence is not due to any personal issues between them, though he declined to elaborate on what he meant.
