Vietnam eyes Armenia as link to Eurasian markets

During an official visit to Armenia, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Chan Thanh Man, addressed a roundtable discussion focused on enhancing bilateral ties, expanding economic cooperation, improving the business environment, and launching new initiatives. He highlighted untapped opportunities in several sectors.

According to Chan Thanh Man, Armenia can serve as a bridge between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), offering mutual benefits through enhanced collaboration.

Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Hakob Arshakyan, emphasized the importance of deepening relations between the two countries. He noted that although bilateral trade has grown significantly in recent years, there remains considerable untapped potential. Arshakyan pointed to increased imports and exports of alcoholic beverages, fresh fruits, and various agricultural goods, as well as a boost in the exchange of goods and services. He also stressed the need to expand cooperation in high technology, education, science, and other fields.

Arshakyan expressed satisfaction with the rich history of cooperation that has existed since Soviet times and continued after Armenia’s independence—especially in education, culture, and science. He highlighted the long-standing academic ties, noting, “Thousands of Vietnamese students have studied in Armenian universities, and mutual exchanges have occurred in scientific and educational spheres. This warm relationship between our peoples forms an excellent basis for further economic development.”

He welcomed the creation of a dialogue platform for business representatives, expressing confidence that economic progress would also contribute to stronger political and societal ties. Arshakyan believes this high-level visit will energize bilateral relations across economic, educational, cultural, and political domains. He also referenced the recent visit of Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan to Vietnam, expressing hope for continued reciprocal visits.

The event was attended by representatives from the Armenian and Vietnamese governments, parliamentarians, and business leaders. Discussions focused on strengthening economic ties and exploring new projects.
