Justice Minister says Constitution text will be public at some point

The new Armenian Constitution text will eventually be made public and cannot remain confidential, says Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan.

During a press briefing, Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan addressed the ongoing constitutional reforms, emphasizing that the new Constitution draft will inevitably be published and discussed openly with the public.

“We are working on the new text of the Constitution. This text is not and cannot be secret by its nature. At some point, it will be made public, and every clause and norm will be discussed with representatives of our society,” she said, according to 1lurer.am .

When asked whether the preconditions set by the President of Azerbaijan could accelerate the constitutional reform process, Galyan responded that she does not believe a new draft can be ready in less than 8 to 10 months. “I don’t think it’s possible to have a new Constitution draft earlier than 8 to 10 months,” she said.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s readiness to sign a peace agreement. “Peace has no alternative, and our actions should be aimed at achieving a lasting peace,” she said.

During a joint press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reiterated that Armenia’s Constitution contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan and insisted that removing such clauses is a “legitimate demand from Baku.”
