Government launches new support program for vulnerable families from Artsakh

The Armenian government is set to launch a new supplementary aid program for vulnerable families forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, following the revision of the temporary “40,000 + 10,000 dram” housing assistance scheme.

In an interview with Public Television, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan explained that the new initiative aims to mitigate the hardship faced by families affected by the recent changes in housing support conditions, reports Armenpress.

“We understand that some families may now struggle to cover their housing rent. The government has therefore decided to implement an additional aid program alongside the revised one, which will assess a family’s income to determine whether further financial support is necessary,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

He further clarified that this new assistance will be provided to families whose total income, calculated per family member, does not exceed 55,000 drams, including salaries. In such cases, each eligible person will receive 40,000 drams, with an additional 10,000 drams allocated for every subsequent family member.

“For instance, if a four-member family has an average income below 55,000 drams per person, they will receive an extra 70,000 drams,” Khachatryan elaborated.

The cancellation of the “40,000 + 10,000 dram” program for Artsakh residents, effective from April 1, has sparked significant discontent among displaced individuals from Nagorno-Karabakh. Many believe it could accelerate emigration from Armenia.
