The Armenian Anti-Corruption Committee has completed the investigation into a criminal case confirming that A.K., with the help of another individual, illegally offered compensation to a member of the National Assembly.
The MP in question is Hovik Aghazaryan, formerly of the ruling Civil Contract party.
According to the Committee, evidence was gathered proving that A.K., through an intermediary, attempted to offer a bribe to the MP.
“The investigation revealed that A.K., with assistance, approached the MP offering between $200,000 and $300,000 to bypass legal procedures for exporting 150,000–200,000 agricultural animals to the United Arab Emirates. On August 9, 2023, the MP stated that agreements had already been made with relevant officials and demanded $200,000 to start the process, with $100,000 upfront and the rest after the deal began,” the statement reads.
On August 10, during a meeting, A.K. informed the MP that he could only pay $20,000 upfront, with the remaining amount to be paid in installments as the livestock was exported. However, the MP rejected the partial offer, citing his existing agreements with officials based on the full initial sum.
Both A.K. and his accomplice have been charged under Article 439, Part 2, Clause 3, and Article 46-439, Part 2, Clause 3 of Armenia’s Criminal Code for offering illegal remuneration and aiding the act.
The case has concluded, the indictment approved by the Prosecutor, and the materials have been forwarded to court for trial.
