Armenia open to Georgia's peace mediation initiatives

Armenia's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ani Badalyan, stated that Yerevan highly values Georgia's efforts to facilitate Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization. She noted that the Georgian side has initiated several proposals aimed at fostering cooperation between the two countries, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the need to take small steps towards building trust and expressed readiness for such measures. He mentioned that Georgian partners have recently approached Baku with several proposals, to which Azerbaijan responded positively, and is now awaiting Armenia's stance.

"Armenia appreciates Georgia's efforts and is open to discussing potential ideas with a constructive approach," Badalyan said.

She also highlighted that if specific agreements are reached on individual initiatives, the public will be duly informed.

On March 13, it was announced that Yerevan and Baku had concluded negotiations on the text of a peace agreement, finalizing the last two provisions concerning the withdrawal of third parties (including the EU mission stationed in Armenia) from border areas and the withdrawal of lawsuits filed in international courts.

On April 2, Aliyev stated that the peace agreement would be signed only if several preconditions are met, including the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group and amendments to Armenia's Constitution (Baku demands the removal of provisions from the Declaration of Independence that mention Nagorno-Karabakh).
