The EU Foreign Affairs Council has added Armenia-Azerbaijan relations to its April 14 agenda, highlighting the region’s strategic and political significance, including Yerevan’s March 13 announcement on readiness to sign a peace deal.
At its session in Luxembourg, the EU Foreign Affairs Council will also focus on recent developments in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the bloc’s ties with African and Western Balkan countries, according to the European Council.
Following the council meeting, the EU will host its first-ever high-level dialogue with the Palestinian Authority.
On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two previously unresolved clauses in the draft peace agreement and considered the deal ready for signing. Armenia expressed willingness to start consultations on the signing date and location. However, Baku has introduced new preconditions and stated that it is too early to set a date for a meeting.
The draft peace agreement comprises 17 articles, 15 of which had previously been agreed upon. The remaining unresolved points concern mutual renunciation of international claims and the non-deployment of third-party representatives along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
