A protest was held in Stockholm, Sweden, demanding the release of Armenian prisoners unjustly detained in Azerbaijan. Demonstrators gathered to express concern and urge international action.
Participants appealed to Swedish authorities to break their silence, intervene, and support the captives’ release.
“Your silence is a death sentence,” read one of the slogans carried by the protesters.
They also called for condemnation of Azerbaijan’s actions and the imposition of sanctions on the country.
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has published an annual report highlighting that Armenian Christian prisoners often face harsh treatment, including beatings, psychological abuse, lack of medical care and food. Instances of religious persecution include attempts to burn off cross-shaped tattoos.
