Armenian, Iranian customs officials meet at Agarak crossing

Representatives from the Armenian State Revenue Committee’s customs divisions met with personnel from Iran’s Norduz border checkpoint at the Agarak crossing.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed various issues related to the checkpoint’s regular operations.

Particular attention was given to ensuring the proper implementation of all border-crossing procedures and reviewing the specifics of entry and exit protocols. The parties also explored ways to enhance customs operations and increase the effectiveness of border control mechanisms.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from Armenia’s National Security Service border troops, along with the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syunik.

In October 2024, an agreement was reached with Russia that Russian border guards would withdraw from the Agarak checkpoint. Since January 1, 2025, control has been exercised solely by Armenian border guards.
