FM hopeful Armenia will receive €20 million from EU fund

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced during a joint press conference with Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon that Armenia is set to receive €20 million this year from the European Union’s Peace Facility.

“Last year it was €10 million; this year, the amount is slightly higher. By ‘slightly,’ I mean double,” Mirzoyan said, according to Sputnik Armenia.

However, some media outlets have reported that Hungary is blocking the transfer of €10 million, demanding that Azerbaijan also be included in the aid package.

Responding to a question about the alleged blockade, Mirzoyan stated that discussions are ongoing and expressed hope for a favorable resolution.

“We hope for a positive outcome in the future,” the minister said.

Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon stated that they supported the proposal to separate aid intended for Armenia’s armed forces. She added that such a decision requires unanimous approval.

In July 2024, the EU allocated €10 million from its Peace Facility to Armenia for a tent camp designated for a battalion. Hungary also blocked last year’s transfer, lifting its veto on the condition that Azerbaijan receive a comparable sum for demining efforts.
