Mirzoyan: U.S. interested in Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal

In an interview with Turkish media, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the current U.S. administration has demonstrated interest in facilitating the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, as reported by 1lurer.am.

When asked whether there had been cooperation with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, Mirzoyan pointed instead to the current leadership’s involvement.

He highlighted that communication is ongoing and that the U.S. has welcomed both sides' announcements regarding progress on the peace treaty’s text.

“I can say that the new administration is showing interest in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process. We’re seeing those signals. And if this contributes positively—why not?” Mirzoyan said.

On March 13, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the two previously unresolved articles of the draft peace agreement, declaring the text ready for signing. Armenia also expressed readiness to begin consultations on the signing date and venue. Baku has since set new preconditions, saying it is too early to discuss the timing of a meeting.

The draft peace agreement comprises 17 provisions, of which 15 had been previously agreed. The two unresolved issues concerned mutual renunciation of international-level claims and the deployment of third-party representatives along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
