Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told Turkish media that a bilateral commission is set to be established under the peace agreement to monitor its implementation.
“This is also part of the broader Armenia-Turkey dialogue,” he emphasized. “We have reached a consensus on the draft text of the peace agreement, and it is fully ready for signing. This is a significant achievement. I would even say, a historic event, something unprecedented. Just imagine — after a long-standing conflict and bloody events in our region, Armenia and Azerbaijan have managed to agree on a final text,” he said.
According to the minister, Armenia has proposed immediate consultations with Azerbaijani counterparts to determine the time and venue for the signing ceremony.
“We suggested starting consultations with Azerbaijani colleagues right away to decide on the location and timing of the signing ceremony. Unfortunately, we see that Azerbaijan has a somewhat different view. They believe Armenia needs to take additional steps before the agreement can be signed,” Mirzoyan added.
He stated that the Armenian side has acted with utmost flexibility and purpose to bring the document to completion.
On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two previously unagreed articles, confirming the peace agreement was ready to be signed. Yerevan expressed readiness to begin consultations on the date and location of the signing. Baku, however, introduced new preconditions and said it was premature to discuss timelines for the meeting.
