Pashinyan sends condolences to Vatican over pope’s death

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sent a message of condolence to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals of the Holy See, regarding the death of His Holiness Pope Francis.

“Your Eminence, I received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. On behalf of myself and the people of Armenia, please accept our heartfelt condolences. His Holiness’ exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to promoting peace, universal values, solidarity among peoples, and the protection of human rights and freedoms are truly invaluable.

Pope Francis will be remembered by all as a champion of compassion and humanitarian ideals, who also showed consistent concern for peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

We deeply share the grief of believers worldwide over this great loss,” Pashinyan stated in the telegram.

The funeral of Pope Francis is scheduled for April 26. His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, is expected to attend the ceremony.

In his will, Pope Francis, the 266th leader of the Catholic Church, requested a modest and simplified funeral. Leaders from several countries, including France, the United States, Brazil, and Argentina, have already confirmed their intention to attend the farewell ceremony in Vatican City.
