In a message marking the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Alen Simonyan emphasized that remembrance should strengthen national determination and foresight in shaping the country’s future.
He noted that April 24 is among the most somber and sorrowful days of national memory: “On this day, we honor the memory of 1.5 million innocent Armenians who were killed solely for being Armenian. The Armenian Genocide is a deep historical wound, one that still echoes today with the voice of justice.”
Simonyan stressed that Armenians must not only remember the past but draw strength from it: “Our commitment is to build a united, strong, and peaceful Armenia—based on the lessons of the past and aimed at a stable future. We do not forget what happened, but we also must not allow memory to become solely a source of pain and mourning. It must make us more resolute and visionary in our future steps.”
He concluded by bowing in memory of the victims and reaffirming a renewed commitment to defend Armenia’s statehood, value peace, and ensure a dignified future for coming generations: “Eternal glory to the memory of the innocent victims.”
