Rubio honors Armenians, avoids using genocide term

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on X, carefully avoiding the term "genocide" and instead referring to it as the "Great Calamity."

"Despite unspeakable loss, the Armenian people endured and triumphed. Today, we remember the Great Calamity not only with mourning, but also with determination.

We honor the past and look forward to working for the peace, prosperity, and security of Armenia and the region," wrote the U.S. Secretary of State.
