No one in Armenia denies genocide, ruling party MP says

A ruling party MP has rejected accusations that there have been denials of the Armenian Genocide in Armenia, saying such claims are exaggerated and unsupported by facts.

During a speech at the National Assembly, Vladimir Vardanyan, an MP from the Civil Contract faction, said opposition parties were overstating instances of Armenian Genocide denial.

“Have you ever seen anyone in Armenia who has denied the Armenian Genocide? We can keep discussing this, asking whether a criminal case has ever been initiated under this article. Personally, I’ve never seen anyone in Armenia deny the Armenian Genocide,” he stated.

He also emphasized that no criminal cases have been launched in such instances.

Earlier, Civil Contract MP Vahagn Aleksanyan had declared that Armenia’s current government has never denied and has no intention of denying the Armenian Genocide.

In a meeting with the Armenian community in Switzerland, Prime Minister Pashinyan addressed the genocide issue, saying that it is necessary to understand “what happened and why.” Later, in a press conference, he affirmed that the Armenian Genocide is a fact that is indisputable and undeniable. He also reminded that denial or justification of the genocide is a criminal offense under Armenian law.
