President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan and President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili made statements to the press following their meeting held in Yerevan.
Addressing the issues of regional stability and long-term peace, President Khachaturyan said that Armenia expects to establish comprehensive peace with Azerbaijan.
"Armenia remains committed to advancing the peace agenda and will continue its constructive involvement in the peace process. I would like to reaffirm that the text of the 'Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan' has been fully agreed upon and is ready for signing. We anticipate achieving comprehensive peace with Azerbaijan," he stated.
The Armenian President emphasized that relations between Armenia and Georgia have recently been marked by increased activity and expanding content.
"The interstate relations between Armenia and Georgia are based on strategic partnership, democratic values, the sovereignty of our states, and the shared Christian heritage and vision of a common future for our two friendly peoples. Regular high-level visits continue. Cooperation deepens and expands across all sectors of state governance.
The unprecedented intensification of cooperation in recent years and the establishment of strategic partnership have laid solid foundations and oblige us to further intensify efforts to deepen mutually beneficial collaboration.
I attach great importance to the declarations by Armenia and Georgia recognizing each other’s territorial integrity, as a factor for strengthening stability and peace in the South Caucasus. Our relations with Georgia are developing both bilaterally and multilaterally.
Today, my counterpart and I discussed a broad range of bilateral issues, including political, economic, educational, cultural, sports, and youth affairs," he noted.
Khachaturyan highlighted that Armenia highly values Georgia's efforts to strengthen stability and security in the South Caucasus, as well as to support the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"We welcome Georgia’s initiatives to create trilateral cooperation platforms and appreciate Georgia's role in finding areas of cooperation and implementing joint economic projects. We also exchanged views on several international issues, geopolitical developments, and regional prospects.
In conclusion, I would like to express confidence that Armenia and Georgia will continue to deepen and strengthen their partnership for the benefit of our friendly peoples and the entire region," the President said.
*Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has already been agreed upon and is awaiting final signing. He noted that he proposed to the Azerbaijani president to initiate consultations for signing the agreed draft.
On March 13, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan's proposals regarding two previously unsettled articles and that the peace agreement was ready for signing. Armenia expressed readiness to start consultations on the signing dates and venue. However, Baku has raised new preconditions and declared that it is too early to discuss meeting dates.*
