Individuals who were forcibly displaced from Azerbaijan between 1988 and 1992 and have since acquired Armenian citizenship will now receive ownership rights to the dormitory units they reside in. The Armenian government approved this decision during a Cabinet meeting.
The move is part of a regulation titled “On the privatization of dormitory housing stock,” which addresses formal ownership for properties currently inhabited by refugees. The policy applies to specific buildings located at Student District 4 in Abovyan (Kotayk province), 29/1 Moldovakan Street, and 2/32 Shiraki Street in Yerevan, where Azerbaijani refugees have submitted formal requests to the State Property Management Committee for property ownership rights.
The core aim of the decision is to provide long-term housing security to refugee families who have lived in dormitories for decades.
