U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated that the current U.S. administration aims to promote peace, including between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He made this comment on X.
Landau noted that he had the honor of witnessing Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s efforts to reduce tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly through calls with their leaders.
“President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have made it clear to our administration staff that our goal is to promote and support peace—whether it’s between India and Pakistan, Russia and Ukraine, Israel and its neighbors, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, or Azerbaijan and Armenia, among others.
As diplomats, and as human beings, our calling is to prevent or stop war. We are proud our team was able to fulfill that promise today and extend our praise to the leaders of India and Pakistan for their prudence and restraint,” he wrote.
On the morning of May 7, India launched missile strikes on several sites under Pakistan’s control, killing at least 26 people and injuring 46 others, according to Pakistani military officials. The Indian government stated the strikes targeted infrastructure used by militants responsible for last month’s deadly attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.
