RA MFA comments on U.S. proposal regarding Abraham Accords

Armenia's Foreign Ministry has responded to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior advisor and aide, Steve Witkoff, who suggested that Armenia and Azerbaijan could join the Abraham Accords, reports Sputnik Armenia.

"In the framework of dialogue with the American side, various topics are being discussed. The established strategic partnership and initiatives contributing to peace in the region can indeed offer new opportunities," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan stated.

Witkoff, serving as Trump’s special envoy, made the comments during an interview with Breitbart, discussing the prospect of a peace agreement involving Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"Lebanon, Syria, and several other countries may join the Abraham Accords for peace. This could also happen with Armenia and Azerbaijan, who, we believe, are close to a final settlement of their conflict. Both may well express interest in joining the Abraham Accords," Witkoff said.

The term “Abraham Accords” refers to the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab countries beginning in 2020 during Trump’s first term. The agreements initially included the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, later expanding to Sudan and Morocco. These countries recognized each other’s sovereignty and agreed to diplomatic cooperation. The accords are named for the patriarch Abraham, who is revered in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
