Two Armenian teenagers inadvertently entered Azerbaijani territory near the village of Aravus in Syunik Province. The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on June 6, 2025, when the youths lost their way in the dark.
Arthur Jhangiryan, the current head of Aravus village, confirmed that the teenagers are not related. He stated, "The border is nearby; they went out at night. The young men are not from the same family."
Former village head Argam Hovsepyan suggested that the teenagers likely got lost while searching for horses. He noted that some pastures in the area are only a few meters from Azerbaijani positions, increasing the risk of such incidents.
Former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan commented on the situation via Facebook, criticizing the portrayal of Azerbaijan as a "friendly" and "peace-loving" neighbor. He accused the Armenian authorities of making false appeals for coexistence with Azerbaijan to maintain their power.
Tatoyan emphasized that the two minors had no ulterior motives and highlighted the dangers posed by Azerbaijani armed forces illegally stationed near Armenian communities. He reiterated his longstanding proposal to remove Azerbaijani troops from Armenian roads and villages and to establish a security zone to protect residents from the presence of Azerbaijani soldiers who have previously committed violent acts against Armenians.
The teenagers have been identified as Karen Armeni Jhangiryan (born June 27, 2007) and Andrey Armeni Gyagunts (born January 13, 2008).
